Dashboards Embedded Ranges

Embedded Ranges in Dashboards offer a powerful way to connect Excel-based data with interactive visual dashboards in Datarails. This feature allows users to maintain the integrity of their Excel files while enhancing visibility, accessibility, and shareability of specific data ranges. Here's a comprehensive guide on creating and working with Embedded Ranges in Dashboards.

Create an Embedded Range

  1. Open your Excel workbook and navigate to the Datarails tab in the ribbon.

  2. Click on Import Widget to open the widget library.

  3. Select the desired Dashboard from which you want to import data.

  4. Choose the Embedded Range option from the available widget types.

  5. Once selected, define the range of data you want to embed.

  6. You can choose specific dimensions, measures, and time periods to tailor the data to your needs.

  7. Click Import to insert the live data into your Excel sheet.

  • Updating Data: When the source data changes, the embedded range updates automatically.

  • Applying Filters: Modify the reference date or apply additional filters in the Datarails ribbon to adjust the data dynamically.

  • Editing Layout: You can resize the embedded range within Excel without affecting its functionality.

Limitations

  • Embedded ranges do not support direct modifications in Excel; changes must be made in Datarails.

  • Large datasets may require additional time to load, depending on data complexity.

Publish to PowerPoint from Dashboard

You can seamlessly publish dashboards—including those with Embedded Ranges—directly to PowerPoint, providing stakeholders with polished, ready-to-present visuals:

  1. Open the desired PowerPoint presentation where you want to embed dashboard content.

  2. Click on “Import widget” from the Datarails add-in in PowerPoint.

  3. A “Select a widget” window will open, displaying a list of all dashboards in your environment. For each dashboard, all available widgets will be shown.

  4. Click on any widget to add it to your slide. You can choose to:

    • Add the widget only

    • Add with AI Insights, which includes a smart data summary next to the widget

  5. The selected widget will be added to your slide. If you chose to include AI Insights, a dynamic summary box will also be inserted.

  6. You can adjust the placement of the widget and summary manually. Use the “Widget Active View” button to preview the interactive version.

  7. Just like in dashboards, the embedded widget in PowerPoint is dynamic and reflects data changes according to the selected reference date.

This is especially useful for preparing executive summaries, board presentations, or monthly financial reviews without manually copying content from Excel.
