Prerequisites
Please note that this guide is tailored towards the ODBC configuration of the UK version of Sage 50.
For the US version, please see vendor notes for ODBC configuration
- Install ODBC agent on a server with access to SAGE installation (instructions can be found here)
- Sage 50C User and password
- Datarails’ Admin user
Step 1: Get Sage 50C DSN
- Open SAGE Report Designer
- Press on Data sources button
- Select a data source and press configure
- Copy the connection string
Step 2: Create a New Data Source in DataRails
Now that you have the DSN name and the agent is installed, the DataRails-side of the synchronization can begin.
- From the left pane in Workspace, select Admin > Data Sources.
- From the top right of the screen, click the + icon. The Add Data Source dialog box appears.
- Complete the dialog box:
- Organization: Your company
- Type: ODBC
- Sync User: Your company’s sync username
- Name: SAGE50_Instance_Name
- Server URL or IP or connection string: DSN=X;DIR=X;Root Path=X;Report Types=X;Uid=X;Pwd=X
- Click Save.
Step 3: Create a New Filebox
For the most up-to-date and complete instructions on how to create a new filebox via the workspace or the Excel add-in, please go here.
Step 4: Synchronize the Data
Large Datasets: When syncing large datasets of millions of rows, it’s necessary to split the synchronizations. Each month requires a separate synchronization. Additionally, best practice recommends that you only bring in the fields you need and that you filter out data that you won’t use in Datarails.
