Help Options & Settings

From the Help button, you have many options available to modify and customize your Datarails Excel system to suit your requirements. Let's look at each in turn.

  1. Reload
  2. Events Log
  3. Settings
  4. Zip Logs
  5. Advanced
  6. Language
  7. Learn & Support Center
  8. About
  9. Version

Reload

While Refresh will quickly update your data, Reload takes a little longer and will update the functions tables / functions schemas and also verifies the document.

Events Log

Similar to Zip Logs, Events Log pulls a listing of the Add-in’s recent activities. This is helpful should you have need to share with Support for any troubleshooting issues.

Settings

This section contains three sub-sections:

  1. Excel Options
  2. Performance
  3. Data Protection

Excel Options

  • If checked, this feature stops the Excel workbook from calculating until the end of the Refresh. This is particularly helpful for workbooks that take an unusually long time to refresh. Should ALWAYS remain on (checked)!

  • If checked, This is a legacy functionality (pre-2020) affecting only a handful of customers, and is turned on by default. Allows you to construct DR functions in a different manner.

  • If checked, this allows you to refresh the connection with data pulled from external sources.

  • If checked, this automatically refreshes file when opened.

  • If checked, this setting will refilter the data based on the sheet filters that exist, AFTER the refresh. This is only applicable if sheet filters exist in the workbook.

  • If checked, when you first open Excel, or when you click Reload, Excel will will scan and search for duplicate named ranges. With this feature engaged you may experience slower loading times. Beginning in Version 1.2.7, this feature will by default be checked OFF.

  • If checked, the system will copy / paste the range to the right. Learn more about how to Roll Forward / Roll Backward within Datarails.

  • Not presently in use; was previously used to update Excel Add-in version. Should remain checked OFF.

  • If checked, allows you to filter DR tables by date.

    • The system date field within the Excel DR table is required.

  • If checked, the Datarails table will no longer refresh in order not to overwrite manual changes to the DR table.

  • If checked, when two separate collaborators are currently editing the same file, only the latest user to open the file will be able to Submit.

  • If checked, the right side error pane will appear if errors present.

  • If checked, dynamic range will NOT update with Refresh, rather only on Reload.

Performance

  • Uses the old function API. Should remain undecked.

Data Protection

  • If checked, when you submit this file into Datarails, all the DR formulas will become zeros (0s). This is useful for data privacy, to ensure when anyone downloads the document, they will need to refresh before they are able to see any data. If they are properly permissioned, they will NOT see any source data, rather only filtered values.

Zip Logs

Log files are used to help solve some issues you may run into while using Datarails. They are the real activity logs of any and all actions you have performed including any clicks while using Datarails. Our developers may ask you to share them for review to determine if there is a server error or a formula that was implemented incorrectly and they will be able to either fix a bug or direct you to what needs to be changed to ensure resolution. You can read more about Requesting Zip Logs here

Advanced

  • A cell with an active refresh trigger will automatically refresh the entire document once that cell is modified.

  • Similar to the error pane, this will pull up a window to identify objects with Excel that are used but not connected.

  • Deletes any duplicate DR Named Ranges. Will ONLY interact will DR Named Ranges, and NOT Excel Named Ranges.

  • Looks for UNUSED DR Named Ranges; and deletes invalid DR Named Ranges. Will ONLY interact will DR Named Ranges, and NOT Excel Named Ranges.

  • Splitting a file enables you to see share segments with different users or just get insights by slicing and dicing. Learn more about how to Split Files here

  • Scans for and locates Volatile Functions in your table.

  • Similar to the error pane, this feature provides additional details about potential errors in your functions.
