Connecting your Reporting to a Filebox

The first item you will want to ensure while using Datarails Flex is that your Excel workbook maintains a connection to a Filebox within the Datarails web application. You will be able to access all saved versions of your report across time within the Filebox as was covered in previous videos.

This is an overview of connecting an Excel workbook to a Filebox through Datarails Flex and saving a version to the Datarails web application.

Refreshing your Data

You will likely make changes to your data such as updating datasets or changing mappings or groupings within your accounting hierarchy as you put together your reporting. Refresh provides an easy mechanism within Datarails Flex to get your most up-to-date data into your Excel workbook at all times.

This is an overview of using Refresh and understanding selective refreshes.

Drill Down

One of our most popular features in Datarails Flex! The Drill Down does exactly as its name implies. If a cell in your Excel Workbook is bringing in data through formulas from Datarails, you will have the ability to pull up in a separate tab the most granular level of the data that is housed in Datarails. For example, from an Income Statement grouping called Product Revenue, you will be able to Drill Down into the transaction level data across your various products.

This is an overview of the Drill Down functionality and working through Drill Down to produce summary pivots based on a dimension within your dataset.

Filters

Filters are a simple way to slice and dice a consolidated view within Excel to get to your numbers quickly and efficiently. Across any dimension within your datasets, you will be able to create local (single tab) or global (workbook wide) filters to dynamically work through your Excel reporting.

This is an overview of adding filters to your Excel workbook through Datarails Flex as well as how to interpret the different types of available filters.

Date Picker

Dynamically work through dates for different reporting periods within the same Excel workbook using our Date Picker functionality. The Date Picker is located in your Datarails Flex ribbon and will be your guide to selecting and changing the reporting date within a given report. As long as the data for a given date selection is in Datarails, you will be able to work through historical reporting periods up to the most recent data by simply activating the Date Picker.

This is an overview of accessing and utilizing the Date Picker.
